Feb. 22, 2008 The Legacy Children's Foundation Musical Instrument Bank

"It's not enough to tell kids to say no.
We have to give them something to say yes to."

Music is one of those things. Research shows that a music education helps students do better in other areas of academic study. More importantly, it gives them a positive activity that builds their confidence and teaches them lessons about diligence, creativity and teamwork.

Unfortunately, some children cannot afford to become involved in music lessons or other music programs, or even play in their school band or orchestra. That’s why we’ve created a new initiative, The Legacy Children’s Foundation Musical Instrument Bank, to provide musical instruments for loan or permanent loan to children and youth who without this assistance would not be able to take part in this type of potentially life enhancing musical experience.

We are asking Calgary businesses and individuals to donate new or used instruments to our Musical Instrument Bank, so that we can distribute them to children and youth in need throughout the City of Calgary.

The Legacy Children’s Foundation through the Dr. Stanley G. Finn “Gift of Music” Fund also provides bursary assistance to these children and youth to cover the cost of ‘tuition’ associated with music lessons or other music program involvement.
Through this initiative we are giving kids more than just an instrument. We are giving them a chance to discover talents they never knew existed. We are giving them a chance to believe in themselves.
