For eighteen years, the Yellow Pine Harmonica Contest and Festival has provided musical enjoyment to thousands of people in the beautiful, rustic village of Yellow Pine situated in the Idaho backcountry. The Harmonica Contest and Festival is a family-oriented event with something for everyone. It is put on each year during the first full weekend of August by the Yellow Pine Village Association and friends.
All of the proceeds from the Harmonica weekend go toward improvements to the Yellow Pine community. There will be food and craft vendors, raffles, drawings, auctions, harmonica lessons, and toe-tapping music. Entering its 19th year in 2008 (August 1 - 3), the Yellow Pine Harmonica Contest and Festival has grown into one of the world's largest harmonica events. This year the contest will be held outdoors for everyone to enjoy. The contest categories, judging criteria and prize money will be different from previous years. The village of Yellow Pine (only 40 or so year-round residents) is high in the Idaho mountains (alt. 4,765 ft), 150 miles north of Boise, surrounded by national forests and is known as the "Gateway to the Central Idaho Wilderness Area." You'll see dirt streets, a real live "little red schoolhouse (fondly known as The University of Yellow Pine), a wooded RV park, rustic cabins, country store, hotel, gas pumps, three tavern/cafes, and the Community Hall and Fire Hall. So come, step back in time, camp in the beautiful Idaho mountains, swim at Devil's Bathtub, fish Johnson Creek and the East Fork of the South Fork of the Salmon River... Best of all, relax and listen to some great music, enjoy great food, and meet great friends.
