The Greater Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) is a non-profit organization of live music fans, promoters, venues, businesses, community leaders, and musicians. One of the DMMC programs is the 80/35 summer music festival. It is an annual two-day festival launching on July 4 and 5, 2008, at Western Gateway Park in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. | |
80/35 will feature more than 40 cutting-edge, progressive acts performing on four stages — two main stages in a gated paid-area and two free side stages. A fireworks display is planned for both nights. Organizers are expecting 15,000 people to flood the streets of downtown Des Moines for the two-day summer music festival. 80/35 2008 Lineup The Roots (see photo) The Roots, a.k.a. The Legendary Roots Crew, are an influential, Grammy Award-winning American band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, famed for a heavily jazzy sound and live instrumentation. They made their debut in 1993 and have gone on to collaborate with artists from a range of genres, such as Roy Ayers and Cody Chesnutt. Inspired by Stetsasonic, The Roots themselves have garnered critical acclaim and influenced later beat and R&B acts.
