Never seen before in the UK but enjoyed by over a million people across the rest of the world Monumental Classics aims to take the classical music experience to a new level. Franz Abraham, the creator of the production, brings Carl Orff's masterpiece, Carmina Burana (a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff between 1935 and 1936), to life with over 250 performers – including the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Brighton Festival Chorus and Youth Choir, as well as dancers, actors, and singers. The dramatic staging has been created by Walter Haupt, a long standing close friend of Orff himself, and features a giant set, previously only seen outside and in stadiums, sensational light projections and fireworks. Carmina Burana tells the story of the wheel of life and all that brings; love and lust, life and death, rich and poor, power and poverty. Franz Abraham's production of Carmina Burana was first launched in 1995 and has wowed audiences since, including a performance on Copacabana beach in Rio to an audience of 100,000 people. The O2 is a large entertainment district including an indoor arena, a music club, a cinema, an exhibition space, piazzas and bars and restaurants, built within a large dome-shaped building (formerly the Millennium Dome), on the Greenwich peninsula in south-east London, England. The name of the Entertainment District officially became The O2, when O2 plc (now Telefónica O2 Europe plc) purchased the naming rights from the developers, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), during the development of the entertainment district. The O2 arena has become synonymous with major acts hosting significant residencies at the venue. This precedent was started by Prince's 21 nights at the venue and has since been followed by the Spice Girls performing 17 shows and Kylie Minogue scheduling 7 for July-August 2008.
