The Rockport Chamber Music Festival (RCMF) is an annual festival held during the month of June in Rockport (45 miles from downtown Boston), Massachusetts. Inspired by Rockport’s rich artistic heritage and spectacular seaside setting, the Festival was founded in 1981 by two musicians, pianist-composer David Alpher and soprano Lila Deis, and Paul Sylva, a Rockport businessman. The founders’ goal was to create an exciting chamber music series in one of the nation’s oldest and most vital art colonies. | |
For the past 26 seasons, the Festival has honored the founders’ vision by presenting a chamber music series of extraordinary quality each June. For each of these 26 years, the Rockport Art Association has graciously hosted the Festival concerts in its Hibbard Gallery. RCMF is widely recognized as one of the most distinguished chamber music festivals in the United States. Under the leadership of Artistic Director David Deveau since 1995, the Festival has grown steadily in quality, attendance, and national reputation. In September 2006, RCMF purchased Haskins Building on Main Street in Rockport. The site will be transformed into an elegant new performance center with a world-class concert hall, complete with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean through the glass window behind the stage (see photo). The new performance center will be the new home for the Festival in 2009. It will allow an expanded summer festival season of classical music and the addition of: • A Jazz and folk music concert series Programs of 27th Rockport Chamber Music Festival (June 5 – July 2, 2008) include: Strauss: Piano Quartet in C minor, Op.13 Event: Rockport Chamber Music Festival Date: June 5 (Thursday) – July 2 (Wednesday), 2008 Location: Rockport, Massachusetts USA |
