 | Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival is a four-day weekend music festival held annually in early June just outside of Lawrence, Kansas at Clinton State Park. Since its inception in 2004 the festival has grown dramatically with almost 20,000 tickets sold in 2006. The festival is known for an eclectic mix of music. The event is kept smaller than other festivals such as Bonnaroo by an agreement with the state. June 5th-8th, 2008 are the dates for the 5th Anniversary of the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival. The Flaming Lips (formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1983) is an American rock band. It is known for their lush, multi-layered, psychedelic arrangements, spacey lyrics and bizarre song and album titles (e.g. "Pilot Can at the Queer of God", "Free Radicals (A Hallucination of the Christmas Skeleton Pleading with a Suicide Bomber)" and Yeah, I Know It's a Drag... But Wastin' Pigs Is Still Radical). In 2002, Q magazine named The Flaming Lips one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die". In February of 2007, they were nominated for a BRIT Award in the "Best International Act" category. As of 2007 the group has collected three Grammy Awards, including two for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In addition, the Flaming Lips' single "The W.A.N.D" was featured in a new Dell Inspiron commercial that aired during the summer and autumn of 2007, along with their song "Do You Realize??" featured on a Mitsubishi commercial and a Range Rover Commercial. The Flaming Lips also contributed original songs to the soundtracks of several 2007 films: "The Supreme Being Teaches Spider-Man How to be in Love" for Spider-Man 3, "I Was Zapped by the Super Lucky Rainbow" for Good Luck Chuck, and "Love the World You Find" for Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. | |
