June 28, 2008 Salzburg Festival

birthplace of Mozart at 9 Getriedegasse, Salzburg, Austria The Salzburg Festival (Salzburger Festspiele) is a prominent festival of music and drama. It is held each summer (for 5 weeks starting in late July) within the Austrian town of Salzburg (see photo: birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at 9 Getriedegasse, Salzburg, Austria).

Part of the Salzburg Festival’s special charm and success is due to the broad artistic program in its three genres (opera, concert and drama), the spectrum of the chosen works and the quality of the artists. Furthermore, visitors to the Festival can combine their enjoyment of art with a singularly beautiful natural setting.
In 2006 the Festival celebrated the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth by staging all 22 of his operatic works (including 2 unfinished operas), to great acclaim. All 22 were filmed and were released to the general public in November 2006.

Since the fall of 2007, Jürgen Flimm has been the Artistic Director of the Festival, leading the largest festival in the world in a new, successful direction. Flimm’s motto for 2007, “The nocturnal side of reason”, and “For love is strong as death” in 2008, are received with great enthusiasm by audiences and critics.

The Salzburg Festival 2008 will take place July 26 through August 31. It features:
