June 30, 2008 Iowa Floodstock: Flood Relief Benefit Concert

Cedar Rapids Iowa floodFloodstock 2008 will be held on July 3, 4 and 5 at Cabo Grill, 2730 Edgewood Rd. SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It is a flood relief benefit concert hosted by area businesses and organizations.

Floodstock 2008 tickets will be available at the gate for $10 per person/per day. All proceeds from the event will go to The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation Flood 2008 Fund and a business recovery fund that is being established.
The Great Iowa flood of 2008 is an event involving most of the rivers in eastern Iowa. It started on June 8. Flooding continued on the Mississippi in the southeastern portion of the state for several more days.

The flooding of Cedar Rapids (see photo) and Iowa City were the most significant events. Recovery, particularly for Cedar Rapids will be a protracted, costly affair. For Iowa City, the level of devastation was less than expected, but that of Cedar Rapids was greater than anticipated. When the river crested at almost twelve feet higher than ever in Cedar Rapids recorded history, more than 3,900 homes were flooded as 1,300 city blocks were inundated with water.

Mays Island, which has Cedar Rapids City Hall, the Linn County Courthouse, the county jail as well as the United States Courthouse was flooded up to the second floor level. Buildings that did not suffer any first floor damage had flooded basements.

Due to the short notice, nature of the event, and the overwhelming response from local artists who want to lend their talent to this great cause, The concert may not be able to accommodate all scheduling requests. But you can expect to see Swing Crew, Greenbriar, Funk 101, Copper Moon, Superfly Samurai, Wicked Liz & The Bellyswirls and many, many more there.
