The story In 1980 three unassuming secretaries (Violet, Judy and Doralee) are out to conquer the working world. Only trouble is they're up against their scoundrel of a boss, Franklin Hart, Jr., a sexist, egotistical, lying hypocrite bigot who keeps the glass ceiling firmly in place. Tony Award®-nominee and Emmy Award®-winner Allison Janney (see photo), Megan Hilty (in the role that made Dolly Parton a movie star), and Stephanie J. Block play the women armed with a dream and scheme. Tony-Award nominee Marc Kudisch plays their nemesis of a boss. With a book by Patricia Resnick (based on her original screenplay), direction by Joe Mantello, and a sparkling batch of new songs by Dolly Parton herself, 9 to 5 clocks in as Broadway's sassiest new show. Parton was nominated for an Academy Award for the "9 to 5" single. Her new album, Backwoods Barbie, was released in February 2008. The title track is a song written for the character of Doralee from Parton's score for the musical. | |
