July 26, 2008 Aloha Tower Marketplace Ukulele Contest


 Illuminated picture of the tower at night, HonoluluThe Aloha Tower Marketplace is one of the only waterfront shopping centers in Hawaii. Located at the Honolulu Harbor, the Aloha Tower Marketplace features several declared national landmarks including the Aloha Tower (see photo), Falls of Clyde and Hawaii Maritime Center. Aloha Tower Marketplace was completed in 1994 as part of a Honolulu Harbor commercial revitalization project. It now features under a hundred stores and popular restaurants and facilities for conventions.

Aloha Tower Marketplace will host the third annual Ukulele Contest on the go! Center Stage on Sunday, September 14, 2008. It is open to amateurs (defined as those who do not play the ukulele for a living) vying for thousands of dollars in prizes and the chance to be a representative of the 2009 Aloha Festivals. There is no entry fee for this contest and admission is free for all audience members.
The deadline for the complete submission is September 4, 2008.

This Ukulele Contest, in addition to showcasing some of Hawaii’s best amateur ukulele musicians, will include appearances by Rylan Tokioka (last year's winner), Chris Kamaka and Brian Tolentino, ukulele displays by popular ukulele brands including Kamaka, KoAloha (see video), and Leolani, and door prizes for the audience.
