Underwood is in Iraq on an USO tour.The Board of Directors of the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) announced on July 30, 2008 the nominees for the 2008 Canadian Country Music Awards.

Newcomer Jessie Farrell leads the nominations with a total of seven, including Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, CMT Video of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Top New Talent of the Year – Female and her previously announced nomination for Fans’ Choice. She is also joining the already stellar line-up of stars scheduled to perform on the CCMA Awards.

One of this year’s nominees for female artist of the year and last year’s Fans’ Choice Award winner Terri Clark will host the show, which will feature performers Jessie Farrell, George Canyon alongside previously announced performers Dierks Bentley, Doc Walker, Emerson Drive and Johnny Reid on September 8 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The show will be broadcast nationally on CBC Television at 8 PM with encore broadcasts on CMT.

Carrie Marie Underwood (see photo) is an American country singer-songwriter. She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol, and has become a multi-platinum selling recording artist and a multiple Grammy Award winner. Her debut album, Some Hearts, was certified seven times platinum and is the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. Some Hearts yielded three number one hits on the Billboard Country charts in the United States and Canada: "Jesus, Take the Wheel", "Wasted" and her biggest hit to date, "Before He Cheats." Additionally "Don't Forget to Remember Me" topped the charts in Canada. Underwood scored another Top 10 Billboard hit with her charity single, "I'll Stand by You." Some Hearts sold a total of seven million RIAA-certified copies as of February 2008.

Her second album, Carnival Ride, was released on October 23, 2007. It has produced three number one country hits, "So Small", "All-American Girl" and "Last Name." Her current single "Just a Dream" is at #25 on the Billboard "Hot Country Songs" chart. Underwood's Christmas single, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" peaked at #2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. Aside from her vocals, Underwood's success is attributed to what many fans recognize as her wholesome image. Underwood was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on May 10, 2008.
