Wyclef Jean has written and recorded an anthemic new song, "Venus (I'm Ready)," inspired by the spirit, character and prowess of American tennis champion Venus Williams (see photo by Brett Weinstein). At the age of 14, Venus Williams became a professional tennis athlete. At the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China she was seeded seventh but lost to unseeded Li Na in the quarterfinals 7–5, 7–5. She did, however, earn a gold medal (with her sister Serena) in women's doubles. It was their second gold medal as a team, having won together in Sydney, Australia in 2000. Williams is seeded seventh in the upcoming U.S. Open. In her first round match she is scheduled to play Samantha Stosur. If everything goes well, Williams could face her sister Serena for the third time this year. | |
